I love to run but I’m not always motivated. Here is a cool motivating game to run faster! Imagine that you are walking through a dark and abandoned alley, and you suddenly hear the groaning and the slow movement of a strange creature. I am pretty sure that even the laziest person would speed up after realizing that a “real zombie” is after him. This is the basic idea behind the Zombies, Run! application.
The game monopolizes on the fact that fear can motivate people and the fact that everything seems to be more fun when turned into a game. This app is perfect for those who consider running a boring activity. If you not only hear but also see virtual zombies projected onto your phone or device’s screen, you will not only increase your speed and endurance, but also feel that time is just flying by. Hi Eva,
Glad to assist! There seems to be many ways to go with this game and I think the more creative you are the better it gets.
So glad you reminded me of this one. So much more engaging and motivating than other running programs with "run now', 'walk now', 'speed up for 1 min' where I usually start thinking 'stop telling me what to do. I was much more motivated to outrun Zombies, though it was a bit freaky as I was running at dusk. Teaching post secondary I hadn't even thought of gym class, and I love Tracy's idea of changing the context to history class. It's got me thinking of my nursing students as they orient to a new hospital we usually give them a paper checklist to go find the lab, the admitting department etc. how much more engaging, motivating and even more memorable if it was a storyline case study that walked them through the hospital to find things, especially the gamification elements.
I think I just found another new project.
Eva
I think if you had this in gym class that kids would love it. They would be so focused on the game and not aware of meeting curriculum criteria. Would think there would be less attendance issues and students forgetting their gym clothes.
I have played this game before! So fun! I could see it being used in an educational context by changing the zombies into historical figures as you make your way through an old battlefield or historic treaty signing. I'd be interested in hearing other ideas about how we might adapt the concept for an educational use.
Wow! Thanks for sharing this cool app Kevin. Im sure ill be running super fast. Haha! Ill have to give it a try some day.
