Task #5

Twine
This week's task was to create a hypertext adventure game using the Twine Tool​

So let the story begin...
Thoughts on creating a Twine.
Once I got over the dread that I'm not a creative storytelling person.
Creating a Twine was fun !!!

Originally, I thought, well I can't write stories of frogs and entertaining things.
So I would go with what I know, teaching nursing students.
​
In addition, as I worked through the sample story I began seeing links to what I had done in the past in our Simulation Lab (experiential learning). Depending on what the students say or do the manikins respond in a variety of ways.

So, as the students are new and just starting to go to clinical practice this week and interact with patients. I thought I would do a twine with them that covers some of the material they have been taught.

It started all serious instructor-like, then went south into all kinds of funny and silly loops. In all with some more work, I think it would be a great learning tool for the students.
​
There's a couple of things I would do differently If I had to do it again. Firstly I would map out the sequence better. meaning would likely first write the straight/correct sequence first, then come up with the distractors after the 'correct' path. Also would leave much more time for formatting, fonts, colours, and learning how to add pictures and sound effects to enhance the experience for students. In other words, I would learn HTML. :-)

Twine was a pleasant surprise for me, especially as sometimes I find long tracts of text full of hyperlinks annoying. It ha me thinking of hypertext in a different way. As a digital iteration of the adventure books from my youth where you picked your own adventure in a book...by flipping to the correct page. and the idea seems to have moved forward with video - for example, the Netflix series Black Mirror that has an episode where you can pick multiple storylines with different endings.

Wonder what the next iteration of this idea will be, and how it will change culture and learning?
